Short answer: a car wash is a quick rinse. A mobile detail is a careful, top-to-bottom clean that comes to you. Most people do best with a detail every few months and gentle washes in between.
What a car wash does
There are three main kinds: automatic washes with brushes or cloth strips, touchless washes that use high-pressure water and stronger chemicals, and hand-wash places where a crew washes a line of cars. All of them are built for speed.
- Brush and cloth washes touch hundreds of cars a day. The grit they pick up can leave fine swirl marks you’ll see in the sun.
- Touchless washes are easier on paint but often leave a thin film of road grime behind.
- Interiors usually get a quick vacuum at most.
What a mobile detail does
We come to your driveway, garage, apartment or office with our own water and power. Even our Basic detail includes a foam pre-soak and two-bucket hand wash, wheels, tires and door jambs, tire dressing, an interior air blow-out and light vacuum, an interior wipe-down, and windows inside and out. A Full detail adds a clay bar, an iron decontamination bath, a ceramic sealant with 3 to 6 months of protection, and leather and trim conditioning.

When a car wash makes sense
A quick rinse between details, getting dust or bird droppings off fast, or a car you are not worried about. If you use one, a touchless wash is easier on your paint than brushes.
When to book a detail
- The inside needs real work: kids, pets, spills, sand or smells.
- You are selling or trading in and want the best offer.
- Before or after a road trip.
- Your paint feels rough or looks dull, or you just got a new car and want to protect it.
- You don’t have a free afternoon to sit at a car wash.
Good routine: a Full detail every 3 to 4 months keeps the paint protected and the interior fresh, and a Basic detail or gentle wash in between keeps it looking that way. See how often to detail your car.
